Outlook 2007: Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook Error

by dcurtis 9/15/2008 7:53:00 AM

When I got into work this morning, I couldn't open Outlook because of the following error:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The file C:\...xxx...\Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file.

I found the solution to the problem here.  All I needed to do was run the scanpst.exe file and it repaired all of the problems.

Access 2007: Cannot open query in design view--Invalid Use of Null

by dcurtis 9/5/2008 2:25:00 PM
I had an Access 2007 database at one of my customers that was failing when running a query.  When trying to diagnose the problem, I tried to open the query in design mode, but it kept giving me an "Invalid Use of Null" error message.  I tried compacting and repairing the database; however, that didn't resolve the problem either.  I decided to created a new database, import the queries that were causing the problem, and see if I could open them in design view--and it worked!  With the source of the query in hand, I deleted the queries from the original database and then recreated them with the data from the imported queries in the new database and the problem was solved.
