Error on Photoshop CS2 on Vista: "Unable to continue because of hardware or system error.."

This morning when I tried to open a PSD file in Photoshop, I received the following error: "Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."  I performed a search on Google and found what I thought was a solution here, but none of the suggested fixes worked.  The site suggested that it might be because the event log manager might be turned off, so I thought I would check the event logs.  Upon checking the logs, I found the following error:  "Source: Outlook Category: None Type: Error Event ID: 35 Description: Failed to determine if the store is in the crawl scope (error=0x80070002)."

Performing a search on that error led me to the following thread: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.outlook&tid=a681f8a4-f6e1-456b-86fe-1469fc04b16f&p=1

I followed all of the instructions posted by Marphyre and it not only resolved my problem with Outlook, but it resolved the Adobe problems as well.
