Great Shoes! Brooks Glycerin 7 Review

by dcurtis 6/22/2009 8:40:00 AM

This entry falls under the category of "whatever I want to talk about."

Last year I set up a treadmill workstation to use when I am working from home; however, it wasn't until this year that I started using it much more seriously.  So far this year I've walked 578.75 miles--with 140 of those miles coming from this month alone.  With my increase in walking came an increase of knee and foot pain.  I had gone to the mall in February and bought what I was told was a great pair of shoes.  Compared to what I had been wearing previously, the shoes were great; however, a couple of weeks ago my feet and knees weren't happy and I knew I needed to get some different shoes.  I bought a new pair from a department store, wore them for a day on the treadmill, and my feet felt like they were going to fall off of my legs.  I took them back that night.

Rather than go to the mall to one of the chain stores or a department store again, I decided to go to an atheltic shoe specialty store.  There was a Dick Pond Athletics shoe store close by so I thought I would give them a try.  After an analysis of my stride, the clerk at the store recommended a certain range of shoes and then I tried on several of the shoes within the range.  I selected the Glycerin 7 shoe by Brooks because, compared to the other shoes, these shoes felt like I was walking on pillows.  I have put 37 miles on them so far and I LOVE them.  They are a great fit, my feet feel very comfortable, and my knee pain has been absent for the last few days.

Unless you are a seasoned athlete or a huge shoe aficionado, I would highly recommend going to a store like Dick Pond's to get a pair of shoes.  Having a clerk who tries to understand what you are doing, what your problems are, can analyse your stride, and then make a recommendation on all of these factors makes all of the difference in the world.  This has been the best shoe buying experience I've ever had.
